The Canon 2000D, or Canon 1100D, has been one of the most eagerly anticipated new cameras of the past year. Growing talk – and a few credible rumours – of a Canon 2000D release date – or perhaps a Canon 1100D release date? – suggest we could finally see a successor to the Canon EOS 1000D as soon as this spring. 1. Higher pixel countThe Canon 1000D has fewer pixels than any Canon DSLR, so it’s likely a Canon 2000D release will have a more highly populated sensor. The question is will it use the EOS 500D's 15.1MP sensor or 18MP like the EOS 550D, 60D and 7D? Or perhaps a new sensor?

UPDATE - January 2011: Canon is to unveil a replacement to the Canon EOS 1000D at the Japanese CP+ trade show on 9 February, according to 1001 Noisy Cameras, quoting a Japanese source. The source suggests the new Canon camera will be called the Canon EOS 1100D.

You heard it here first: there is no stronger 'sure thing' than a 2011 Canon 2000D release date.
The predecessor to the Canon EOS 2000D, the Canon 1000D, is the Granddad of low-end DSLRs. First introduced in 2008, the Canon EOS 1000D has held its own for an impressively long time, but since the arrival of higher-resolution, video-enabled competitors like the Nikon D3100, the Canon EOS 1000D has started to look decidedly decrepit.
As an entry-level model, the Canon 1000D is the cheapest camera in Canon’s DSLR lineup, and despite a respectable feature set, its build quality leaves a lot to be desired. These days, ‘entry level’ doesn’t have to mean ‘cheap and nasty’. Therefore we expect the Canon 2000D features to offer significantly improved, possibly EOS 7D-inspired handling, plus a higher resolution sensor (possibly the same 18MP used in the Canon 550D) and – naturally – the current ‘must have’ feature: Full HD video.
2011 Canon EOS 1100D / Canon 2000D release date probability: dead cert. We could possibly see a Canon 2000D release as soon as first quarter 2011.
